Rasch, John D., PhD, CRC
Dr. John D. Rasch is Professor Emeritus (2010) of the Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling Department. He was a former Department Chair and a former Director of Graduate Studies. He was the recipient of grants from the Department of Health and Human Services Rehabilitation Services Administration, as well as funding from the Florida Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services.
Dr. Rasch was an active member in the American Rehabilitation Counseling Association (ARCA), National Association of Rehabilitation Professionals in the Private Sector (NARPPS), and the National Council on Rehabilitation Education (NCRE). His activities in two of these professional associations resulted in the creation of two important journals for rehabilitation professionals.
He was a founding member of Rehabilitation Education and the Journal of Private Sector Rehabilitation. The first, Rehabilitation Education, was started in 1987 and is the official journal of the National Council on Rehabilitation Education. Still published by Springer under its new name of Rehabilitation Research, Policy and Education, the journal continues to present and review scientific evidence and issues related to rehabilitation, rehabilitation and disability policy, rehabilitation education, and all aspects related to rehabilitation service.
The second, Journal of Private Sector Rehabilitation, was started in 1986, and is still published today by Elliott & Fitzpatrick, Inc. In 1990, the Journal merged with NARPPS Journal to become Rehabilitation Professional, one of the journals of the International Association of Rehabilitation Professionals (formerly the National Association of Rehabilitation Professionals in the Private Sector).
Many of Dr. Rasch’s publications and presentations examined licensing and credentialing issues for rehabilitation specialists, and competencies in pre-service and in-service rehabilitation counselor education.
