Dr. Marilyn Stern Describes RCT Study on Motivational Interviewing at the Society of Behavioral Medicine Conference
Dr. Marilyn Stern, with colleagues from Virginia Commonwealth, Boston University, and the University of Virginia, presented results of the MI Values Study, a randomized controlled trial of a motivational interviewing intervention in pediatric obesity. MI Values was developed to implement within an existing multidisciplinary treatment program for obese, ethnically diverse adolescents - the T.E.E.N.S. Program (Teaching, Encouragement, Exercise, Nutrition, Support). They suggest that MI might represent a brief clinical intervention to help adolescents change the behaviors that contribute to pediatric obesity in a non-confrontational, collaborative way.
